In a significant move, the West Bengal Education Department has finally launched its long-awaited centralised undergraduate admission process today.

The announcement was made by the state’s education minister, Bratya Basu, during a press conference. After multiple setbacks, students across the state can now apply for undergraduate courses through a unified portal starting this academic year.

The higher education council of the state will manage the centralised portal, ensuring all participating colleges adhere to the new system. The new system allows students to apply to a maximum of 25 courses simultaneously, choosing from 7,217 different courses across 16 universities and 461 government and government-aided colleges, offering the flexibility of choice to the students.

The key features of the New Admission Portal

  • Application End  Date: July 7
  • First Merit List Release: July 12
  • Admission Completion Deadline: July 18
  • Classes Begin: August 7
  • Second round Mop-Up Merit List Release: August 8

The portal is a single-window online platform for admission to 16 universities and 461 government-aided affiliated colleges. It provides students the opportunity to choose from hundreds of courses, officials said.

“If you remember, last year the online portal opened on June 19. And the higher secondary exam results were announced on May 8. So if you compare with the proceedings last year, we are not late,” Nasu told reporters here. The higher secondary results were published on May 7 this year.
